Our IHART Gospel Values

Gospel Intentionality—Intentionality is living out the purpose for which we have been created. By nature, we will live selfishly and for our own comfort. God has called us to live in a different manner that will bring glory and honor to Him. We invite others to join us as we walk with Him. This intentional disciplemaking is the heartbeat of the Great Commission and Great Commandment.

Ephesians 5:15

Pay careful attention, then, to how you walk—not as unwise people but as wise— making the most of the time, because the days are evil.

Gospel Hospitality—Hospitality is about treating others as equals by creating a place for them to feel welcomed, honored, protected, and cared for. This is an important value in light of God being a missionary God for all peoples. When we properly exercise gospel hospitality, we welcome people to be themselves in light of the love of Christ, to become renewed by being changed by the work of Christ, and to do works we have been created for in Christ.

Hebrews 13:1

Let mutual love continue. Do not neglect to show hospitality to strangers for by doing that some have entertained angels without knowing it.

Gospel Authenticity—Authenticity is the quality of expressing our brokenness in light of the beauty of God’s grace and mercy. It is expressed appropriately in view of God’s working in us for his glory and for the growing of our faith. It is seen in vulnerability and humility, and is also seen in confidence and peace. We are authentic when we view ourselves not in view of humanity, but in view of God’s design for us personally.

Ephesians 4:21

Since you have heard about Jesus and have learned the truth that comes from him, throw off your old sinful nature and your former way of life, which is corrupted by lust and deception.  Instead, let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes.  Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.)

Gospel Relationships—God has created humanity to be in relationships. We are not created for isolation nor to live alone in our faith. Through relationships we are to encourage one another and reach out to those that are not followers of Jesus. Gospel relationships display Jesus as the One who can bring identity and worth to our lives. We exhibit this connectedness to a dark and hurting culture. It is in these relationships that we show the promise of forgiveness and hope of eternal life.

Hebrews 10:23-25

Let us hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, since he who promised is faithful. And let us watch out for one another to provoke love and good works, not neglecting to gather together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging each other, and all the more as you see the day approaching.

Gospel Transformation—Transformation is the Holy Spirit working in us and transforming us when our lives are surrendered—not about behavior modification. We value transformation because that is what the Holy Spirit does in us as we grow in grace and truth. Transformation is a process in us that is ongoing. This value is about our motives for continuing to live a gospel-centered life. Our minds are renewed as we allow God’s Word to change the way we think, and act.

Romans 12:2

Do not be conformed to this age, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may discern what is the good, pleasing, and perfect will of God.
